Praia da Luz.

Praia da Luz - ‘the Beach of Light’, is a resort in the Western Algarve, that was originally a fishing village and is now a favourite destination for families.

Praia da Luz was originally a small fishing village with little white fishermen's cottages and cobbled streets. It has expanded considerably since the 1960s and is now a popular family resort, witth a wide range of villas and apartments. The picturesque beach of Praia da Luz, is a golden sandy blue flag beach, which is safe and supervised during the summer.

There is a promenade complete with palm trees and benches backed by a cluster of cafes, bars and restaurants. To the east of the beach you find some spectacular cliffs and among them the prominent black rock Rocha Negra. This is an intrusion of lava produced from the volcanoes of Monchique some 190 million to 135 million years ago.

Luz is about an hour’s drive along the A22 motorway from Faro. Praia da Luz has a welcoming and family friendly atmosphere and offers a surprisingly wide selection of restaurants. Luz may be quiet and peaceful, but it is only 5km to the city of Lagos, with its extensive shopping, historic cente and buzzing nightlife.

For golfers there are four golf courses within 5 - 20 minutes drive and there are day-trip coaches from Luz to the water parks and dolphin park.
